The Perfect Slow Roasted Prime Rib Recipe

The Perfect Slow Roasted Prime Rib Recipe

This is my go-to recipe for the most perfect Prime Rib! This recipe never fails and it's super easy, especially when serving guests during a busy holiday.

The ingredients for this recipe are just the start of what makes it so easy:

  • One 4lb prime rib roast, bone-in (*see my note regarding larger cuts)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • BREAK A LEG to taste (you'll need at least 6 heaping tablespoons)

Always start by placing your prime rib roast on grated baking rack or plate and allow it to get to room temperature. This usually takes 2-4 hours depending on the size of your prime rib. Preheat the oven to 500 degrees F (260 degrees C). Combine the butter and BREAK A LEG in a bowl; mix until well blended. Spread butter mixture evenly over entire roast. Add more BREAK A LEG according to taste preferences! Trust me - it's delicious. Place the 4-pound roast in the preheated oven for 20 minutes at 500 degrees. *If your roast is larger than 4 pounds, multiply the exact weight times 5 minutes. For example, a 6.3lb roast will need 31 minutes versus 20 minutes. Then TURN THE OVER OFF and DON'T OPEN IT. I know it's hard! I tend to over-check and over peek on anything in my oven. I actually have to tape a large sign on my oven that says, "DO NOT OPEN UNTIL THE BUZZER GOES OFF!" Now, leave the roast in the oven with the door closed for 2 hours. Set a timer and forget it. Trust me.

Tick tock...2 hours later...

Remove roast from the oven, slice, and serve. I also love straining the meat drippings from the pan which now has loads of flavor from BREAK A LEG. Make the most perfect au jus by following this method:

  • strain all the beef drippings from the pan
  • 4 tablespoons red wine
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • BREAK A LEG to taste

Mix all ingredients into a saucepan, whisk over low heat and serve alongside the Prime Rib. Buon appetito!
