Fire Up the BBQ

When firing up the grill, we all ask ourselves: Marinade? Barbecue sauce? Rub? How about SALTOPIA's best BBQ salts instead! While BBQ sauce seems like an easy condiment to cook with, it's actually very difficult. It's runny, sticky, burns easily and loses flavor while grilling. Our BBQ salt selections won't let the grill worthy foods down! All of our salts can be used as marinades, dry rubs, finishing salts and more great grilling. Meantime, let me share some tips and tricks from the ol' salt pro (yep, that's me)!
CABIN FEVER has been a long stay fan favorite here at SALTOPIA! The robust combination of smoked hickory flavor blended with our proprietary recipe of garlic, herbs and spices really knocks your smoky socks off! What I love to do is marinate my ribs with a glug of red wine vinegar and a heavy fist full of CABIN FEVER for about 4-6 hours. This combination really helps break down connective tissue and allows for flavor absorption into the meat - ultimately making the ribs super tender!
Once the ribs have had a good soaking, grill OR oven bake ribs (make sure they are covered and baked low/slow at 300 degrees for at least 2 hours or more, depending on how much you're cooking).
While they are cooking, here's my perfect BBQ sauce made from scratch (sorta):
- 1 small can of tomato paste
- CABIN FEVER to taste
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- warm water (add 1/4 cup to start and add more according to sauce thickness preference)
Combine all the ingredients into a mixing bowl and taste test for adding more CABIN FEVER. If you didn't marinate your ribs first, then you may want to add more CABIN FEVER to the sauce mixture. Slather this lovely BBQ sauce all over the ribs before slicing and serving! It's the best!
This BBQ sauce also works wonders on grilled chicken and pork chops! Here's some other fun twists you can try:
- instead of water, use pineapple juice to give it a more tropical flavor
- instead of water, try honey to make it extra sweet
- instead of water, a glug of maple syrup is always delicious
Most storebought BBQ sauces are loaded with high-fructose corn syrup as well as some nasty preservatives that are extremely unhealthy! Making your own with high quality salts, seasoning blends is really easy and worth the effort for your health. The recipes I've share above are truly the cleanest traditional BBQ sauces you can find! Give it a try and enjoy every finger licking pinch!
