When you look at a food label, you usually look straight at one number: Protein: X grams.
But here is a hidden truth in nutrition: not all grams of protein are created equal. Your body doesn’t just need raw protein. It needs a complete, balanced mix of essential amino acids to build muscle, recover, and function at its best.
If a plant protein is missing just one piece of that puzzle, your body can’t fully use the rest of it. This is why standard plant proteins, like a scoop of pure fava bean or pumpkin seed protein, usually score around 0.55 on the global quality scale. They have a “weak link,” meaning they can’t be classified as a high-quality source on their own.
We set out to change that with our six new protein seasonings.
The UN-Backed Standard: What Is a DIAAS Score?
To measure the true quality of our seasonings, we didn’t just count the grams. We looked at the DIAAS score, or Digestible Indispensable Amino Acid Score.
DIAAS is a protein-quality metric recognized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. It considers how digestible a protein is and how efficiently it delivers the essential amino acids humans require.
According to the standards used for protein quality:
- Below 0.75: The protein has a limiting factor and cannot make a quality claim on its own.
- 0.76 and above: The protein reaches the threshold for a high-quality protein claim.
Why Our 0.80 to 0.90 Scores Matter
We are incredibly proud to share that each of our six new flavor blends has a DIAAS score between 0.80 and 0.90.
By intentionally pairing premium fava bean protein isolates with pumpkin seed protein isolates, with pure organic ingredients, we engineered a complementary blend. Pumpkin seed helps supply the sulfur-containing amino acids that fava bean protein lacks, while fava bean protein helps supply the lysine that pumpkin seed protein lacks.
What This Means for You
When you sprinkle our gourmet seasonings onto your meals, you aren’t just adding chef-crafted flavor. You’re also adding plant-based protein with a DIAAS score designed to reflect protein quality, not just the number of grams on the label.
You don’t need a chalky protein shake or a blender to add more protein to everyday meals. You just need a quick shake of your favorite flavor profile right over your plate.
